Your Voice Your Choice (The Value of Every Woman) #selfhelp #value

Today I embarked on a brand new adventure with writing. Non-fiction. Eeeks! A burning has started inside of me to help people and to give them tools in which to bring healing.

I hope you will check out my brand new release: Your Voice Your Choice (The Value of Every Woman)

Here’s a Sample from the first Chapter!

There is a world of ever-changing beauty inside of you. It’s not lost. It’s not caught away in a whirlwind. Beauty isn’t a set code or style. Beauty is a little girl laughing—dancing—letting herself be free. We crave freedom every day of our lives. What is the cage we feel pressed up against our fluttering hearts? I know you feel it too—this longing to spread your wings. To catch the wind and soar. To see the crystal rivers below you and the sunset splashing oranges and reds across the valley.

We ache to be us. We ache to be passionate and free. To fly without fear of hitting the ground. Every one of us was born to love, be loved, and to experience the best life possible. You feel the stir inside of you. Something is calling you out of where you’ve been—to rise into your rightful place.

Stress: The Motivation Killer

I’ve never been short on motivation. It has always been there for me with my writing. But lately, I’ve felt this giant brick wall standing in my way. I am a hopper by nature, and I tend to jump from story to story, genre to genre, and have learned that I am like that. I’ve enjoyed the fun parts of the hopping, but sometimes even the writers who hop need to finish something.

Today is a day that I can’t do a thing.

I brought up endless books that are swimming on my computer, calling out for my attention, and all I can do it stare blankly at the screen. I want to sleep. I want to do nothing.

Do you have those days?

I feel like I’m someone else looking at myself and saying, “What is going on here? Where is your drive? Where is your passion to pursue the impossible?”

We are all children.

I know this sounds weird, but buried beneath layers of “Adulthood” we are kids. Do you ever have those fits that you looked back on and said, “I behaved like a 3-year-old there.” I have done this over and over lately, and I think part of it was I heaped too much on myself. If you give a 220 lb guy a backpack that weighs 70 lbs he’s probably going to be fine, but if you hand a child that same weight they are going to crash.

  • Know your limits!
  • Know what makes you overwhelmed!
  • Step back and take a breath, even if it feels like you don’t know how.

I’ve found myself unable to “step back” or “relax” it’s like my brain has been on high gear for years and doesn’t know what the word fun means. Fun to most people is socializing, playing games, going outside etc. Somewhere along the lines my fun ratio was confused, and I literally had no idea what was even fun to me anymore.

We loose joy sometimes.

We layer on “stuff” and somewhere we bury the inner kid who seriously just wants to enjoy life and have fun. I’m too busy for fun. That is probably the one thing I’ve told myself multiple times. So when I have time for fun, it’s like…hmmmm…now what?

If this all sounds super familiar to you, and you’ve literally forgotten how to have fun, time to reevaluate what you’ve been putting on your back.

  • Are you wearing a 70 lb bag of “stuff” that you can’t handle?
  • Are you bottling up emotions that are boiling to the surface?
  • Are you struggling with every area of your heart and stress is creeping in everywhere?

If you are. Let’s go together and rediscover the word fun.

Ask yourself: What is fun to me? Is anything? Anything at all?

For me, this is a hard question. What is fun to me. I know what used to be fun when I was a kid. Playing, playing, playing. Being outside, playing basketball, climbing things, getting muddy, making videos with my friends. All this stuff made me happy, but as I grew up, its like fun became some distant thing.

Part of me thinks my fun died with my friendships when I hit 20.

This is a blog to express some stuff, so if this is going to make you bored I won’t be offended. But, I think I NEED to write this part.

When I hit 20 every friendship I’d ever built died. My friends in fact brought me chaos at the time, even before our friendships died they were stressful. Especially one of them. She was very taxing on my emotions all the time, and I found myself not enjoying our time together, unlike my other friend. One of my friends we always had fun, but we were 5 years apart and slowly the age gap began to be a thing.

She got friends her age, and me being me, retreated from her instead of pursuing. It’s been a flaw I’ve had forever, and I think I didn’t know how to be self-confident and speak up for myself and actually pursue her back. So needless to say, at the age of 20 my source of any fun was gone with friends, and it had been faltering for a while anyways.

From age 10-20 I had so much struggle with friendships it was uncanny, and by 20 I was done. I was so done. I was a huge, huge, huge mess, and had no idea how to process anything at that time.

Before this blog turns sour, I want to say that God has always had my back. He’s always been this friendship that’s unwavering and has always had someone in my life to hold me. I’ve never known how to get that part of me back. The fun side. I’m not saying I’m boring or that I never ever have fun, but some of that childhood from 10-20 was so mixed up. Before I moved at age 10, all I knew was joy. All I knew was fun.

I was sitting on my bed thinking way, way back and remembering me and my best friend Mandy watching Hulk Hogan on this little TV in her basement. It made me smile. I started thinking about all the fun stuff I did with  my friend Mandy, and every piece of that is JOY. Every piece. It makes me tear up because I want that back.

I want joy.

I want so much joy that it overwhelms me and makes me who I want to be. Not this ball of emotional stress that hits me sometimes. I want to be able to breathe joy and live there.

God and I are working on this stress stuff, and I know that He desires me to live in joy. In His presence is FULLNESS of joy.

  • A friendship should bring joy.
  • A spouse should bring joy.
  • Your passion should bring joy.
  • Your family should bring joy.

Its so easy to get led astray from joy. To wear a backpack that God doesn’t want you to wear. He doesn’t want you to heap things in your mind that He knows will only harm you.

Let go of stuff.

Let go of frustration

Find joy.

Find fun.

Let’s do this together, okay? I know this wasn’t exactly happy, but I have faith that joy and motivation and fun are all inside of me and you both. I gotta find that little kid who wants to play in the mud. Find her. Find him. Live there.

Dealing with Stress

A lot of people probably don’t know, but I’ve been dealing with a lot of stress. Stress is awful. I never knew what it was a like until a few years ago. I’ve went through a few stages of it, but not too long ago it came back again.

I’m an author and I push myself like crazy. I also work 32 hours a week at a pretty physical job. And I work in the church A LOT. So, needless to say my life is insane, cause you throw in housework, social life, and being a wife, and you get a person who gets herself a bit crazy.

Everyone has my story. I mean, I’m sure not all of you has that much on your plate, but you may have other things you are balancing in life and sometimes we just plain out get stressed. Here’s some things that happened to me when I let this stuff get to me.

If you are having these signs PLEASE try to stop working yourself up.

  • Weird tightness in my chest (not exactly like a breathing problem, I knew it was anxiety of some kind)
  • Not sleeping well (my mind wouldn’t stop racing)
  • Jumpy and jittery feeling (I just recently went through this one, and had NO clue what it was! It reminded me of when I needed to eat, but I’d eat and it’d still be there)
  • Rash (Yeah that’s always a fun one. I didn’t know why that was there either, and I looked it up and it can be from stress)
  • Emotional distress (I have been this insane ride lately, and I was starting to worry a lot about myself)

Okay, now that you know some weird symptoms what do you DO to take care of it?

I’ve looked up some articles and there is TONS of advice about stress.

  • Exercise
  • Eating Healthy
  • Relaxing

I’m not really one of those articles, though all that is good. After going through some crazy stuff, I knew that I had to do something and fast for the sake of my own health.

What causes stress?

Yes, a lot of “stuff” going on and getting overwhelmed will cause this, but underline what is the source of stress?

For me it was blame.

I decided to go on another brain detox with a program I bought from Dr. Caroline Leaf. Though, I still had symptoms when I first started, I know its getting better. I asked God what toxic thought I should work on, and He immediately told me blame. And He told me who I was blaming for almost all of my emotional distress. Most of this stuff was because of an underlining problem. Stress about my marriage, my writing career, and my parents’ church.

I’d grown a pretty big tree of blame on all of this.

This blog isn’t exactly something I want to write about, but I hope it helps someone else. Blaming others, even if they honestly had a lot to do with your problem, is never right. It will only hurt YOU.

God showed me what the power of blame was doing to my life, and I could see this giant, ugly tree that literally was freaking scary. Then I saw a picture of God turning his back to this giant tree and covering it up completely. Then He told me, “Let’s grow forgiveness.”

This is only day 4 of the brain detox, and already I can tell I am losing blame in my heart. I can see that giant tree’s branches getting disintegrated day-by-day and this tree of forgiveness growing. This is the scripture I’m standing on, and if you’re dealing with blaming others I’d really, really advise you to stand on this scripture too.

Ephesians 4:32

32 Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you.

I’ll keep you guys updated as I go through this de-stressing in my life.

5 Ways to say “I Love You.”

I Love You.

Those three simple words have so much power, but what are some ways we can say it? Here’s a few tips!

1. Be there.

Sometimes all we need is someone there when we’re going through a hard time. A hand holding yours when you’re hurting. Someone to squeal with you when you accomplish a goal. Being there for someone is one of the strongest ways to say, “I Love You.”

2. Dance without Music

Grabbing that one you love and dancing with no music at all, can shout, “I love you!” Spontaneous dance always makes you feel closer, and will definitely bring a smile to both your faces.

3. Knowing when to talk and when to listen

Sometimes we just need to vent. When something has got us down, we need that ear to listen, and in doing that it can say, “I love you.” But, if your man or woman needs a word to lift them up, make sure you offer that encouragement.

4. Being Silly

Not taking every little thing so serious can scream, “I love you!” Telling them that everything is going to be okay in the morning, watching cat videos, hilarious posts, or listening to a stupid song can always lighten the mood. Laughing together always makes me feel loved.

5. Kisses for no reason

Everyone loves a good dipped kiss. Sweep up your man or woman and dip them into an extravagant kiss. A kiss can bring a bad mood right into a good mood. After a long day, pulling the one you love close and giving a tender kiss can really lighten the mood and whisper, “I love you.”

Love Between the Pages

406761_2134016_lz

I was sitting here tonight and God started talking to me about my writing and said, “There’s love between the pages.”

When you pour love into ANYTHING it becomes alive.

As a writer you pour love into your story, your characters. Real, raw emotion that makes people believe that these characters are real. Because they are. In you.

As writers, we have this amazing ability to create. We are made in the image and likeness of God because He is the ultimate creator. God whispered to me one day, “You’re like me. You love to create things.”

It’s true.

I’ve always loved creating something. Whether it be mud pies, make believe, or pictures. I’ve been what I call a random ‘crafter’, but when I discovered writing, it struck home. I knew this is what I love. This is what I’ll create with my Creator supporting me in it.

  • I’m telling you right now you were born to create.

Whether it be music, art, stories, beautiful food, or creating a safe place for your family. You are made in the image of Creator God. I know it thrills Daddy God when we create, that’s why He supports me in my writing. He encourages me, backs me up, and tells me KEEP GOING! Because His heart is for me to create something.

Love

If you are a painter, a writer, or something else you know that you literally pour your love into that thing you are creating. That’s why most artist have a hard time when you beat on their creation, because their heart is attached to it. Every day pour love into the thing God has called you to do.

  • Everybody has a different piece of the puzzle of the Kingdom of God. We were ALL created to create.

If you don’t know what you are called to do ask the Creator Himself!

Let love pour between the pages.

How to Stay Happy

What makes you happy?

If I had to make a list of things that make me happy here’s a few that would be on that list.

  1. Writing
  2. An encouraging word
  3. Someone asking about my life
  4. Late night silliness
  5. Doctor Who
  6. Hearing God speak
  7. Encouraging another
  8. Genuine anything

I was just talking to my sister about this yesterday, and I told her, “I just want to stay HAPPY. Every day!”

But problem with it, is there’s always ‘something’ trying to steal your happy. What is it?

(Points to head)

Thoughts that race in and out constantly like, “You’re never going to make it.” Or, “No one really cares about you.”

2 Corinthians 10:5

We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.

I saw that scripture and was like, YES! We demolish arguments! How many times do we ARGUE with ourselves? Those bad thoughts try to get the upper hand.

Have you ever been in a battle of wits?

My brother is really fast at comebacks, and if you get into a battle with him, he more in likely will win that battle.

So how do we NOT allow those arguments and things that come against the knowledge of God to slap us around?

Let’s read that last part: and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.

That’s a lot of work. If I’m being straight up honest with you! Keeping track of all the stuff floating around in your head is not easy peasy one two cheesy. Its a commitment to protect your thought life. Ever since reading and learning about the brain, I’ve tried to watch my thought life and what I’m saying out of my mouth.

Wanna know how to stay happy?

  • Do things that make you happy
  • Stop contradicting your faith with doubt
  • Watch how you think and what you say
  • Focus on gratitude for EVERYTHING
  • Don’t look what you don’t have. Look at what’s yours.

One last thing here. So, on last Sunday during worship I get a vision. In this vision I see a dead tree that’s smoking. I’m looking at it, and thinking. “This doesn’t look very nice.” So I asked the Holy Spirit, “Why is it smoking?”

Suddenly the tree starts coming alive and blooming with leaves and flowers. BUT it’s still smoking. So I asked God, “Why is it still smoking?” Then He told me, “There’s a hot spring under it.”

Now what does that mean?

With joy you will draw water from the wells of salvation.
We can feel extremely dead and dry inside. That’s when we need to draw from the wells of salvation. Almost any Christian knows that we’ve been given the joy of the Lord among all the other fruit of the Spirit. So, what stops us? (Points to head again) Our brain likes to get in the way a lot.
Draw up your joy.

The Unedited Life

Face it we all edit.

All

Of

Us.

We edit what we wear. We edit what we do. We edit what we say.

Every single day we have what we call a “filter”. You also know when someone DOESN’T have one. We’ve all met those people who make us blush three shades of red, or even worse make us so angry we turn three shades of red, green, and purple!

We call them RUDE. BLUNT. Among other names.

That’s not really what this post is about. We edit some stuff out we should leave unfiltered.

Instead, we make excuses like

1. I don’t have time.

That is a huge one! The one thing I know as a writer is I DON’T HAVE TIME to write. But why do I? Because its my passion. Here’s a secret: you make time for what’s important to you. Don’t filter out your passions or dreams. You’ll regret it.

2. That’s embarrassing

So many things make us uncomfortable. Saying something really sweet to someone. Standing in front of a crowd and making a speech. Going out of our way to do something God told us to do years ago.

3. I’m not motivated.

I swear I hear this one the most. What IS motivation? Most the time motivation comes from having dreaming and goals. If you have no motivation you have to discover who you are. What makes you excited about life? If you don’t know, that’s okay, start trying stuff!

We edit the good and bad out sometimes. One thing I’ve learned with following God is just DO IT. I used to get worked up and freaked out when He’d tell me to do something. Now I’m like, “Alright. Let’s see what happens.”

In fact.

It’s fun.

Don’t edit everything out of your life. Live. Make mistakes. Do something crazy. You can always pass your script to an editor tomorrow to clean up your grammar mess.

Faith Works Both Ways: Ask and it will be given

faith

Do you know you can have faith for poverty?

This morning God and I were having a conversation, and He was talking to me about faith. He said, “Do you know faith works both ways?” I was really interested in that! So I said, “What do you mean, God?”

He said, “You can have more faith in poverty than My blessing in your life.”

WOW

We go through life “expecting” certain things, and what is faith?

Hebrews 11:1

11 Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.

  • What is the substance that is holding you? Is your mind full of expectation for disaster, sickness, poverty, bad relationships etc. Do we actually say out of our mouths, “I never have money.” Or, “Every one of my friends stab me in the back.”

We are speaking FAITH.

There is always a distortion to the truth, right?

Our problem is that we look at what’s in front of our face right now. That sickness. That bad relationship. That depression. We don’t realize that we literally call those things that be not as though they were.

Proverbs 18:21

The tongue has the power of life and death, and those who love it will eat its fruit.

If our tongue has the power of LIFE or DEATH, what is your tongue saying? What fruit is showing up in your life? God has had me on a journey with faith in the area of wealth. I was watching a video by Caroline Leaf at church the other day, and I realized that it wasn’t my “asking or believing” that was hindering me, it was my “receiving.”

 feed-your-faith
Matt 7:7

“Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives; the one who seeks finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened.

It’s time to let go of the past. Let go of disappointments where you asked before and didn’t get it. Were you fully expecting it to actually manifest in your life? If we are double minded it says in James 1:8 that we shouldn’t expect to receive anything from the Lord!

Obviously, how we process and think is important to God. He is a God of reward. Don’t believe me?

Hebrews 11:6

And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him.
We have to
  1. Believe that He exist.
  2. Believe He rewards those who earnestly seek Him

I encourage you to stretch your faith. Observe what kind of faith you’re in. Do you have more faith in the negative things that are happening? Or are you fully expecting that God rewards those who seek Him?
